Introductions

The 2023-2024 Board was introduced.

Principal updates

Principal Erin Shadick noted that the theme for this year is “routine”.  It has been a nice change post-Covid for both students and staff to start off the school year in a familiar fashion.  It was also noted that there is a Bond being added to the November election.  More information will be shared at the October PTO meeting.  

Summer and Early Fall Requests

Several items were approved by the Board over the summer.  Those items include:

1.    Per student budget for teachers

2.    PE equipment

3.    Lunch for Teacher Workshop Week

4.    Bagels and coffee for first staff on first day of school

5.    Storage for new Kindergarten classroom

6.    School even magnets to be distributed at Community Night

7.    Books purchased with Scholastic Dollars.  Distribution of books to be determined.

New Requests

The following requests have been brought to the PTO and were voted on during the meeting.

1.    BrainPop! for all classes – approved

2.    Spotify Premium for Music – approved

3.    Scooters for PE – postponed until November meeting

Principal updates

Principal Erin Shadick shared the information regarding the Bond and Levy questions that will be on the ballot for the November special election.  All families are encouraged to review the information available on the Facilities Planning Page, linked below.

Treasurer updates

Ann Doucette gave an update on recent purchases made by the PTO.  K-cups were purchased for the staff lounge.  In celebration of Custodian Appreciation, cards and gift cards were given to our hard-working custodians: Tammy, Jim, and Blake.

It was also noted that $117 was raised on Community Night selling past years’ Spirit Wear.  Thank you for your support!

Scholastic Bookfair

The fall Scholastic Bookfair will be held the following days: 

     Friday, October 13^th: 9am-3pm

     Monday, October 16^th: 9am-8pm

     Tuesday, October 17^th: 9am-8pm

new requests

Three of Hillside’s Kindergarten teachers presented a request for charging stations for iPads at the meeting.  These charging stations will be cart style with wheels to allow for easy movement.  The current request is for 4, one for each classroom.  Parents and staff present at the meeting agreed it was worth moving forward with and the Board is researching various options.

*Ten days of giving started this week, led by Hillside student ambassadors. 

*Students have been preparing and are excited for the musical put on by the 4th and 5th grade classes.

*The bonds and levy passed so groups are being formed to start the process of getting bids. Projected completion goal is 2027.

Treasurer updates

The PTO has taken care of the following; 5th grade field trip buses, fidget toys and timers for special education, Book Break,14 technology carts, and items for the PE department.

The PTO received $312.00 in donations at the dance and had a net of $899.50 in concession sales. The cost of the Dance was $1645.00.

Principal updates

*Kick off for the Super Bowl of Reading started, it has been going well and many students are off to a great start. The celebration will be held on March 15th.

*ESL students are testing now. MCA testing will start around the middle of April.

*PTO donated some books from scholastic dollars for prizes for I love to read week.

*Erin is asking the district about a fence for the playground. Quote was $32,000.

Treasurer updates

*The budget is right around the same as it was last year at this time. Teachers have started putting in for reimbursement.

*Pools in WMS and WHS are planned to be closed down and make room for more educational space in the buildings.

*Still trying to make the bathrooms better for all students.

• Spirit Week was a huge success!

• 2 weeks until the state testing for grades 3-5.

•  Dale and family will be moving to Colorado in June to be closer to family.

• Book fair was great and we were able to donate books for March madness and the media center.

• Chipotle night raised $783.00.

• Movie night was a very fun Activity and everyone agreed we should repeat this event.
